Spanish Flamenco Guitar

The Flamenco Guitar

The Flamenco Spanish Guitar has two main characteristics that distinguish it from it's"Classical cousin." Purpose and construction. The original purpose of the Flamenco guitar was, and is, to accompany dancers and singers. That's the reason it's usually made entirely from Cypress wood and constructed with a thinner body than the Classical Spanish Guitar, making it lighter and more percussive.

In other words, louder and favoring the mid range and high frequencies. Obviously today with the electrification of any guitar possible, this is not an issue. But before electrification, the Flamenco Guitar, accompanying Spanish singers and dancers needed to be able to match, if not exceed, the volume of their voices and the thundering heels of the Flamenco dance.

The Spanish Guitar

In contrast, the Classical Spanish Guitar is a quieter,"warmer sounding" instrument. Traditionally constructed with a Rosewood body, and a top of either Cedar or Spruce, it's emphasis is on the quality of tone. Not, in contrast to the Flamenco Guitar, volume. Historically, a"poor relation" of it's"Flamenco cousin." Relegated to providing background music in bars and cafes.

The Master

This sad state of affairs was changed by one man. Andres Segovia. He elevated the Classical Spanish Guitar from the bar to the concert hall. With his virtuoso renditions and adaptations of music composed originally for other instruments. The music of Bach for example. He also commissioned original music for the Classical guitar, which resulted in new and renewed interest in the instrument. Commenting on the Classical Guitar's increased popularity he observed:"The Classical Guitar is a tiny voice in a noisy world. That is why everyone is listening." Perhaps not everyone, but certainly an increased awareness and appreciation.

Flamenco meets the World

The same can be said, with a similar history, for the Spanish Flamenco Guitar. Again, it was one man who changed the conception of the Flamenco Guitar from an accompanying instrument, to a foreground one. Paco de Lucia. Although he began, naturally, with traditional Flamenco music, and, in his early career, accompanied the legendary Flamenco singer Cameron de la Isla for 8 years, Paco was, and, continues to be interested in expanding the boundaries of what is loosely referred to as"Flamenco Music." His explorations of jazz with two other great guitarists, John Mclaughlin and Al Di Meola, and the subsequent World tour and live CD("Friday night in San Francisco") have inspired Paco to incorporate jazz elements into his original music. Which Paco continues to perform and record with his current sextet.

Fueling the Flame

Now, there is a new generation of Spanish guitarists. Who, like Paco, have absorbed and incorporated other influences, while respecting their unique musical heritage. One of the most gifted and inventive of this"New Breed" is Santiago Cortez. Like Paco, his original compositions are inspired by a wide variety of musical idioms. Jazz, Rock, Pop, Reggae, Soul, Folk, etc.

No Borders

Santiago's"rainbow" of music colors is best appreciated in his aptly titled"Hybrid" CD. Here he displays an amazing range of styles, tempos and moods. Always totally original and familiar. Yet never derivative. And, equally important, Santiago's impressive technique never overpowers his exquisite gift for melodic expression. Backed by a trio of musicians who are all recording artists themselves, the great German tenor saxist Rainer Pusch, England's sax and flute star, Steve Cadd, and the legendary Spanish percussionist Pedro Delgado, Santiagos' "Hybrid" is a classic example of the exciting new direction of Spanish Flamenco Guitar.

Guitar Tips For Parents - How to Buy a Guitar Book

How do you select a book that will bring lasting enjoyment to your child? How do you know which book is a good buy? How do you choose something that will give all the information they need? If it says "easy guitar chords" is that enough?

Choosing the Right Book is Important

Many times over the years, I have seen parents go out and buy music books for their children and the books merely sat and collected dust. The choice was not a good one. Money was not well spent.

Level of Difficulty Must Be Relevant to the Student

If your child is taking lessons, the best person to help you with this information is, of course, their teacher. If the level of difficulty in the book is way over the student's head, few will have any success with the book. It will simply be a dust collector.

It can take time to determine if a book is suitable or not. A teacher has to look carefully through the song. It may, at first, look simple, but then upon further investigation, they may find a tricky spot that is way past the student's technical ability.

Some books will indicate the level of student they are geared for. This can be helpful. I prefer simple songs as opposed to songs simplified. Some books will take old songs, and simplify the melodies to make them easier, often altering them too much, in my opinion. A teacher's assistance is the best bet.

Best Books are Written Specifically for Guitar

The best books, my absolute preference, have two staves (lines of music) and a line of tab. They have a staff with the melody and then a staff with the guitar accompaniment written in notes. Below that they have guitar tab with the guitar accompaniment written again. Guitar tab looks just like music lines (6 lines instead of 5), but just has numbers instead of notes.

This system gives the most information about how to play the song. A teacher who doesn't even know the song can teach it from this system. I would recommend buying books in this format only.

I encourage my students to buy books and begin working on a song they love. It is very inspiring and will make practice all that much more fun. So with a little bit of knowledge, you too can buy a guitar book for your child and it won't be a dust collector.

Get all the information you need to confidently supervise your child's musical development on guitar. Learn about purchasing a guitar, a case, learn about proper guitar care and even finding a teacher. It's all conveniently put together for you in this complete FREE report Guitar Tips for Parents. Become a positive force in your child's development, be informed. Get your report. It's free.

Learning Guitar - How Long Does it Take?

How long does it take a complete newbie to learn to play the guitar properly? My pat-ready answer is 'not very long.' If you want a more detailed one, it depends on what you mean by 'properly'. There are a few stages of guitar learning that everyone goes through and each one of these relate to different levels of skill and technique. Some stuff you'll learn quickly while others will take longer. For example, if your ultimate desire is the ability to strum sing-a-long songs on the beach or around the campfire, you'll reach your goal much faster than the guy who wants to play blinding metal solo's. Here's a breakdown of the stages of guitar learning and the approximate time it might take you to get there.

Playing Basic Chords - This is usually the first benchmark most new players reach: The ability to strum and switch between the basic guitar chords. At this point you don't necessarily have the chords memorized and aren't able to play many songs, but you're managing to fret and strum them. This level can be reached within one week.

Playing easy songs - You've mastered more guitar chords and have been practicing them enough that you've got most of them memorized and are able to strum and switch between them without too much hassle, and without looking at the fretboard when you do. This means you can play songs! This level can be reached in two to three weeks of daily practice, though for many it might be longer.

Playing Barre and Power Chords - We're moving right along and you're advancing to a level where most self-taught guitarists never go. Barre Chords are much more difficult than open chords and learning these takes extra practice and a whole new set of strength in your fretting hand. It's possible to play most barre chords in two months, quicker for some who practice a lot.

Fingerpicking - The ability to pluck individual strings and play simple riffs (short solo pieces on individual strings) is a new skill your strumming hand needs to learn. This can usually be achieved in two to three months if you start to learn and play easy guitar tabs.

Lead Guitar - A Lead guitarist is the guy or girl who's got the audience at his/her beckoning. Playing solo's and using techniques like slurring, vibrato and palm muting is a whole new set of rules and I'd give it three to four months. This might be way off depending on what kind of music we're talking about - playing acoustic solo's might take less time, but playing rock or metal solo's will probably take longer.

The improviser - A guitarist that can improvise riffs and solos on the spot (and in the middle of a song), have moved from the realm of amateurship to being a pro or semi-pro. Depending on how much talent you have and what you're musical background is, this might take anything from six months to a year.

Please note that these time lengths are given as a very broad estimate and aimed at people with little musical experience. If it takes you longer than a week to learn the basic chords, don't get upset. These times are not set in stone and you have to learn and develop at a pace that's natural and comfortable for you!

The Most Dangerous Cities in America

In November of 2009, Forbes.com compiled a list of the most dangerous cities in the United States. By analyzing FBI crime data from cities with more than 500,000 residents, Forbes ranked each city in terms of murder, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated assault, and other violent crimes.

According to this study, Detroit, Michigan is currently the most dangerous city in the country. Known for a long history of violence dating to the 1960s, and current gang fights, Detroit has one of the highest murder rates in the country. Other cities in the top 5 include Memphis, Miami, Las Vegas, and Stockton, California. The top 10 list includes New Orleans, Louisiana - not surprising, considering the upheaval caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. In 2009, Gary Indiana dropped from the infamous top spot, which it held for several years, to the number three spot. Gary's crime rate, including high statistics of rape and burglary, leave something to be desired. Also coming in at the top of the list are North Charleston (South Carolina), Richmond (California), Birmingham (Alabama), Flint (Michigan), and Oakland (California).

All five of the country's most dangerous cities in 2009 are known drug transit points for Mexican drug cartels, according to the Department of Justice. Drug gangs fighting over territory can be found in each of these dangerous cities, including violence resulting from the Mexican drug feud that already causes the deaths of 10,000 Mexican citizens each year. Stockton, in particular, has seen a recent increase in drug gangs and related crimes over the past few years, as it becomes known as a transit point for drugs entering the country from Mexico.

In addition to drug-related crimes, each of the country's most dangerous cities is also home to its own particular problems. These are not recent developments, however. The cities on the Forbes.com list have been riddled with crime for decades, as once-bustling cities face declining populations, resulting in a city with few resources and a high level of crime. This phenomenon has been repeatedly cited in the case of Detroit and its loss of the automotive industry, for example. Particularly with the current economic climate, it seems like few of the hardest-hit cities will be making any big improvements in the way of safety anytime soon. Hard-hit governments find it even more difficult to come up with the money for crime prevention and public safety.

What can be done about rising crime rates in America's most dangerous cities? This past spring, President Obama met with Mexican President Felipe Calderon to discuss ways to fight the drug war. In addition to stronger police forces and other large-scale change, there are ways to protect yourself from violent crime. Whether you live in an urban area known for rising crime rates, or in a relatively isolated subdivision, you can be proactive about your self defense. No matter where you live, it's important to be aware of those around you. Use common sense home protection methods, such as locking windows and doors, and installing adequate outdoor lighting. For additional protection, install security alarms, or place a dummy security camera outside your home. Carry pepper spray or a stun gun in your bag. Crime can happen anywhere, at any time, even if your city did not make the top ten list.

Resist Attack has a every brand of stun gun for the ultimate personal protection. Also check for current specials on a tazer gun

The disadvantage to using tablature is that you cannot tell whether or not you are learning what the correct rhythm structure of a song is. If you are as confused about this as I was then a simple Google search will provide you with a wealth of internet resources. Again this information is right at your fingertips with the aid of the internet.

The above methods are perfectly suited for the do-it-yourselfers who like a challenge and have the motivation and determination to learn alone. I return to lessons as this is the way that most people are able to effectively learn basic guitar chords. Watching your teacher is a good way to learn; however, having an online video of your teacher playing that you can watch again and again is even better. We all have our unique learning styles, but I am sure we can agree that online learning makes it easier and fun.

Why You Should Learn to Play the Acoustic Guitar Before Going Electric

The guitar has changed music like no other instrument. It has defined rock 'n' roll and the blues and country music just wouldn't be country without it.

Learning to play the guitar is something that is not difficult to do. It does take time and any guitar player who practices gets better. It's as simple as that.

Most guitar players lean towards playing the electric guitar as their first choice. It is played more than the acoustic but when a new guitar player starts out it is important to begin with good habits.

If you will learn to play the acoustic guitar first it will provide you with some very beneficial habits. The most important habit is the development of your fingers to play it correctly.

The height of the strings above the fretboard, is typically higher on an acoustic guitar than it is on an electric. If you begin on an acoustic you are strengthening your fingers and creating the habit of pressing firmly to make each note. When it is time to play the electric guitar your fingers will fly across the fretboard. You will be amazed at how fast you can play. This is a very important habit to start with.

Many musicians who begin with an electric have a hard time when it comes to playing an acoustic. They are not accustomed to the higher string height and therefore have a more difficult time playing it.

Another reason to start on the acoustic is that you don't need an amplifier to listen to what you are playing. You can hear each note and if you are playing it correctly. This allows you to adjust to make sure you get it right. Since you don't have to worry about an amp you can also take your acoustic with you where ever you go.

As with anything you must practice to get better. It doesn't take much time. Start with 30 minutes a day. It is also best to get some quality guitar lessons to start you off right. DVD's are great as you can watch and practice with them at any time. Watch out for free lessons online. Most won't teach you the correct fundamentals and remember that you end up getting what you paid for.

If you have ever wanted to play now is the time. Read my review for one of the best guitar instruction dvd courses that will give you everything needed to succeed. It's perfect for learning to play the acoustic guitar.

Learn to Play Guitar in 5 Simple Steps

So you want to master the guitar? You need to learn the basics of posture and positioning before you can expect to amaze your friends and neighbors with your guitar playing skill. That is just what this article is going to help you do. If you really want to learn to play guitar, discipline yourself and go through these first basic steps over and over again until you understand them. When you become comfortable with them, try a new challenge. Eventually you will be strumming those tunes you so love to hear.

Step 1

Your sitting position is important when you learn to play guitar. You need to be relaxed and guitar should be stable. Begin by ensuring that your guitar is supported by your leg. Sit at the edge of your chair, and make sure your back is straight but also relaxed. Slightly tilt your guitar back towards yourself so the strings are easier to reach.

Step 2

Though you may be sitting some of the time you play, you will inevitably strum out tunes standing up from time to time. Therefore, you should know the correct way to play guitar standing as well. Again, make sure the guitar is secure in its position. The guitar strap should be adjusted so that the guitar is positioned over the middle of your body. Too high or too low and your hands will be very uncomfortable when playing most chords. Your left hand should be on the neck of the guitar and your right should be on its bridge.

Step 3

Avoid strain on your hands and wrist when trying to play. Stick to the following guidelines on hand position. Always keep your hands and your wrists relaxed when playing. Do not place your thumb too low on the neck of the guitar. Put your fingers on the fret board ahead of time so that you do not have to stretch too far to get to the strings. Though these things sound simple, they are of utmost importance to guitar players.

Step 4

When you first learn to play guitar the most difficult aspect to learn is the fret board. So be prepared by keeping your fingernails trimmed down so that the tips of your fingers can more easily access the strings. Use only the tips of your fingers as not to accidentally strike other strings at the same time.

Step 5

The last beginner step has to do with holding the pick. Make sure you grip it with your thumb and index finger. It should be tight enough that it will not fall out of your hand when playing, but it should not be too tight as to affect your comfort level.

These few basic tips will greatly improve your guitar playing. So good luck, have fun, and start practicing!

Using Exotic Scales to Master Guitar Speed

When it comes to the topic of getting faster, its a very difficult thing to talk about, because there are so many ways to go about it. In this article we will have to assume the approach of using scales as exercises.

Exotic scales have deep origins in sounds that a lot of western music is not familiar with. What this means is that the patterns, shapes and spaces between the notes can be quite alien. This is a perfect opportunity to get in there and work with them as exercises, and to give both hands something challenging and refreshing.

The other benefit to exotic scales and using them to clean up your playing is their sound in general. You've probably heard people say that if you can play it slow then you can play it fast. The main reason this is so is that passages that sound good can be very coaching. When this happens, a guitar player will be more inclined to focus on the delivery of the pattern and not the speed. Guitar speed is then a bi-product of clean and joyful playing.

I know that with my own playing, I started really taking off when I focused on getting my own style down. When I started to look at the creativity, phrasing, and experimental sounds of the notes that I was working with, the hands got ten times better, faster. I would encourage anyone, any time, any day to do this themselves. If you focus on getting a style down, then the technique will follow. This is why exotic scales are like a goldmine to be had for all kinds of guitar players. When it comes to them, the pickin's are never lean.

Did you know that most people who struggle to improve their guitar playing and technique are doing so because they are totally unaware of some very important practice habits? Did you also know that developing something like guitar speed is a 50/50, and that one of those ratios may be more important than the other? To find out about all of this check out this website on guitar speed.

This is a convenient way to go since you don't have to bring your computer or have an Internet connection just to watch the lesson. Best Beatles Guitar Riffs

While The Beatles are not often thought of as a riff based band (like Led Zeppelin for example) they did have some great guitar riffs in their songs. What follows are the best guitar riffs of The Beatles, in no particular order.

"Day Tripper"

This guitar riff opens the song and plays throughout most of it. This riff is instantly in your mind and never leaves your mind once it's in there. Plus it rocks.

"Come Together"

This bass guitar riff opens the song and anchors it throughout. It's swampy. It's spooky. And without it the song wouldn't be nearly as cool. One of Paul McCartney's many highlights as a bass player.

"Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me and My Monkey"

This song has two guitar riffs I really love. The opening spiky riff (a variation of this riff can be heard throughout the verses in the background if you listen closely) and the riff that drives the verses. Actually there's a killer 3rd riff I should mention as well, the very groovy riff that ends each chorus and segues the song back to the verses. This is really one of The Beatles riffiest songs and I think it's one of their coolest as well.

"And Your Bird Can Sing"

The ringing doubled riff that opens this song is one of The Beatles coolest guitar moments.

"She Said She Said"

I love the riffs in this song because they sound kind of "off" in a strange way. It helps give the song an off-kilter feeling which fits in well with the lyrics.

"In My Life"

The opening guitar riff of this song is one the prettiest guitar riffs I've ever heard. It's great another example of an instantly memorable Beatles hook. It's repeated just three times after the opening but that's enough as it's so brilliant that's all it takes.

Clean a Guitar - 4 Quick Instrument Cleaning Tips

If you're a constant-playing guitarist, you know there comes a time where you're going to have to clean a guitar one way or the other. The body doesn't shine anymore, the strings are sticky, and the tailpieces look grimy and gross.

It's not a fun task most of the time, but cleaning a guitar of your own can elongate the life-span of the instrument and just make it look great. Check out these cleaning tips in order to give your guitar more life.

* Scrub into the details of your tailpiece.

If you don't pay much attention to your guitar hardware, you'll notice how much grime builds up over time. It's an irritating task but with so much dirt, only a small sponge or old toothbrush can really do the job. When you're done, it'll feel a lot better running your hands across it for your next palm-muted section.

* Household olive oil is good for your fret board.

If thinking about how to clean a guitar just feels like a chore, do just a little bit at a time when it's convenient. When it comes time to change your strings, wipe down the frets in between each string with an old rag and some olive oil. This will make your neck smooth and shimmer in the light.

* Greasy hands make greasy strings.

Most of the time, the way to keep a guitar clean is to prevent it from getting too dirty. If you're strings feel grimy, it may be because you ten to jam right after having some dinner. Wash your hands off and you'll keep your strings drier and better for optimum playing speed.

* Make your guitar body shine again with some glass cleaner.

For beginning guitarists that don't know where to start when cleaning a guitar, they sometimes get roped into paying for expensive cleaning polishes at their local music store. Usually, for such expensive polishes they're not worth the money.

If you use a household glass cleaner instead, you won't see much of a difference. Just spray some on a rag and rub down your guitar until it shines.

I honestly don't like cleaning my guitar, but helping to keep your guitar playable for longer periods is a very positive thing to me. If you want your instrument to last longer and stay reliable, care for it and keep it clean.

Electric Guitar Accessories For the Fender Wolfgang

The newest guitar from rock legend Eddie Van Halen is the Fender Wolfgang. Originally named after the rocker's son and band-mate the Fender Wolfgang is the result of over 35 years of playing and "tinkering" from Eddie Van Halen.

This Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has been compared to such "guitar gods" as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix. Eddie admits to always being unsatisfied concerning his guitar and for years he had destroyed hundreds of guitars by "Halenizing" them by adding pickups from one model to one he like or by grafting the neck from one style and onto the body of another.

In fact he has been known to be brutal on his instruments in his never ending quest to find what he considers to be the ultimate rock guitar. This is why this newest version of the Wolfgang is so important.

The Wolfgang was originally produced by the Peavey Electronic company out of Martin Mississippi. They had worked with Eddie on several projects previous such as his 5150 head amp and the 5150-212 combo amplifier. Peavey manufactured their version of the Wolfgang from 1996 to 2004, when Eddie and the company parted ways.

But it wasn't until 2006 that Eddie with new design innovations running through his head approached Fender master guitar builder and designer Chip Ellis for help developing the new Wolfgang. Finally after two years of designing, building and "road" testing by Van Halen personally while on tour, the Fender Wolfgang was launched in 2008.

Of course one of the perfect guitar accessories for the Wolfgang is the newly improved Fender EVH 5150iii amp. This amp was designed to help guitarists duplicate Eddie Van Halen's famous "Brown Sound".

Using the same amp setup and electronics as their favorite band has always been a fantasy of many aspiring rock stars. But most electric guitar accessories endorsed by the big guys often fall short when it comes sound or quality. Not so with the new line of 5150's from Fender.

This signature amp unit and matching 4x12 speaker cabinet not only allow you to get finally get that elusive Eddie "brown sound" but has 3 channels with crystal clear cleans, great tone quality and over the top high-gains with long lasting harmonics and sustain.

The next set of guitar accessories for the Wolfgang includes the basics: cables and strings. Yes, I can hear you now, but yes the difference in sound quality between a premium guitar cable and one that is so-so one can be surprising.

Eddie has all this EVH signature cables made to his exacting specs and after 35 years, he may know a little bit about weak signal transfers and noise when it come to this type of guitar accessories for the Wolfgang. The core of this cable is 99 percent pure copper for max conductivity, surrounded by a low loss poly dielectric and covered by conductive poly shield. A second shield is made from copper windings to prevent interfere and the whole thing covered in wear resistant PVC jacket.

The EVH guitar accessories for the Wolfgang include a deluxe set of strings. Made with a hex core and covered by nickel windings make these some of the durable guitar strings in the industry. These strings are able to take a beating every night yet retaining their tonal qualities.

Review - Beginner's Blues Guitar, David Hamburger

This method aims to teach blues guitar to beginners or to rock players wishing to acquire knowledge of the blues. It is part of the National Guitar Workshop series and comes complete with a quality CD where the author plays all the book's examples for you.

The book follows two main threads that cover both rhythm guitar and soloing techniques. Both are presented in a very complete and clear manner and are clearly illustrated with examples.

Rhythm Playing

After a short introduction to some blues music theory the book kicks off with some rhythm guitar basics. Building from these you'll learn all about different blues styles such as shuffle, boogie-woogie, Chicago blues, Texas swing, minor blues and slow blues. There are great example songs to get your rhythm chops up to scratch in all of these styles.

Going Solo

The soloing chapters of the book provide an equally complete presentation of electric blues guitar skills. This starts out with an introduction to the blues scales and a number of ways to use them to build licks and solos. The essential blues techniques of hammer-on and pull-off, slides, bends, and vibrato are all given a thorough treatment.

The soloing material is topped off with some signature licks from blues greats such as T-Bone Walker, BB King, Albert King, and Albert Collins as well as advice on improvisation to help you build your own solos.

A Touch Of Class

Not content with an already excellent coverage of blues rhythm and solo playing, the book adds the finishing touches with some great intros, turnarounds and endings that will give your blues playing a classy edge.

You'll also find a final chapter with advice on planning and organizing your guitar learning, as well as recommendations for some backing tracks to accompany your practice.

Conclusion

This is an excellent method for guitarists with a little experience wanting to learn electric blues guitar. The book's presentation is very clear and the writing style makes it easy to follow. The author's knowledge and enthusiasm for blues guitar comes across clearly.

Complete newcomers to the guitar might find it a little hard going, but if you're willing to work then it really does contain all you need to know for a long while.

If you're interested in playing acoustic blues guitar then this is not the best book for you. You might, however, still enjoy it if you're looking to understand playing blues in a band or jam with other musicians.

The very complete coverage will keep you busy learning for a long time making this method excellent value for your money. When you get through with it you'll have all the knowledge you need to play blues songs in a variety of styles with other musicians. If that's your goal then this book is highly recommended.

Country Guitar Lessons - 4 Tips to Advance Your Playing Guaranteed

Do you dream about playing your favorite country guitar songs live with a band onstage or on a record? Have you achieved that goal yet? I know how frustrated this can make you feel.

When I started learning guitar, I would learn a couple of tricks from my teacher, then go home and practice. Inevitably I wouldn't be able to do the trick the next day and would become frustrated and maybe not play my guitar again for a couple of weeks. At that point, I had to start again!

I am sharing 4 tips with you today, that if you implement on a daily basis, your country guitar playing will soar to new levels.

Familiarize yourself with the legends of classical country music. Every day take an hour out of your and really study the music.

I'm talking about Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard etc. Don't just listen. Dissect the music. Listen to how the instruments complement each other. You can even go over to YouTube and find live videos to watch. If you are anything like me, seeing is way more powerful than just listening. Really try and understand the "feel" of the music.

Play the songs. Look up the guitar tabs if need be, but simply play the songs. I mean the chord structure first, not so much the advanced techniques. Those will come later. Pick a song that sounds relatively easy and learn it. You might also look for an online country guitar lesson that has a backing track you can jam to. Once you can play through a song, you will find your confidence level to be much higher and you will be ready to tackle the harder parts of the song.

The third tip may be the most important. Play every day. You will need to build strength in your fingers as well as develop calluses and the only way to do that is to exercise your hands. It's like any other body part. Set aside at least 30 minutes a day. You can do this in front of the TV or wherever, but DO IT! You can learn some basic exercises and scales and simply run them up and down the fret board.

Lastly, get out and play with other musicians. A lot of your success at playing country guitar will hinge upon your ability to connect with other musicians quickly. The only way to do this is well by doing it. Grab a couple of buddies, have them learn the song you learned in step 1 and jam it in your garage or living room. It's the first step. Don't feel bad if you make mistakes, that's why musicians practice. Make the errors by yourselves, so when you get in front of an audience, you will be flawless.

I hope you enjoyed these 4 tips. They may sound pretty basic, but in my 25 plus years or so playing guitar, I have found that these steps are crucial to you becoming the player you always dreamed about.

I have purchased and tried most online Country Guitar Lesson programs and feel I have narrowed down the field to the best three. Check out my unbiased guitar instruction review at http://www.guitarinstructions.org and find out today the quickest path to your guitar playing Success!

Finding Easy Guitar Songs to Learn

Learning to play guitar can be a fun and rewarding hobby. The best way to learn, whether by book or by class, is to start with the chords and work your way from there. There are a lot of easy guitar songs to learn. Starting with something that is repetitive and with uncomplicated fingering techniques is a good way to begin.

Songs that are easily broken down and that have familiar patterns will make it easier for a learner to get accustomed to the guitar. The following are a few guitar songs that are easy for beginners to learn. Practicing these songs every day for a little while will help you become more proficient in guitar.

"Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd is a simple song with a straight riff and some chords that are repetitive and easy to learn. There isn't complicated fingering and the song is very straightforward. It's easy going and fairly simple.

America's "Horse With No Name" is a very easy song to play on the guitar. The song is familiar, which makes it simple, and there aren't many chords in it so the player can just strum along with the song in unison fairly easily.

"Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple is an excellent first time song to start with. The riff is the same throughout the majority of the song and is a familiar one, so this song should be a great one to start with. Be sure to get a feel for the melody and rhythm of each song so you'll remember how to play it next time.

Also, it's important to get a feel for the guitar and learn all the proper positioning and especially the strings so that when you begin reading guitar music, it will come much easier to you and you'll start being more able to intuitively pick out notes and sounds on the guitar.

Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is another good example of simple chording and fretwork. The melody is loose and free flowing, though still with a hard rock edge, but can be played with a little practice on an acoustic guitar.

Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" comes easy and to those who enjoy light rock and easy going fifties ballads, it will also be a fun one to play as well. As with all the songs, remember to be sure you're doing correct fingering and take it slowly at first until you can start playing a little faster.

A single strumming pattern is the best way to start, moving into more complex techniques as you get more experienced. Many popular folk and rock songs are simple to play on the guitar once you have the basic pattern down. Try The Beatles "Day Tripper", Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love", Greenday's "Longview", and the ever popular "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd for starters. Eventually you'll be playing a myriad of songs and having more fun than you ever thought on the guitar.
