Finding Easy Guitar Songs to Learn

Learning to play guitar can be a fun and rewarding hobby. The best way to learn, whether by book or by class, is to start with the chords and work your way from there. There are a lot of easy guitar songs to learn. Starting with something that is repetitive and with uncomplicated fingering techniques is a good way to begin.

Songs that are easily broken down and that have familiar patterns will make it easier for a learner to get accustomed to the guitar. The following are a few guitar songs that are easy for beginners to learn. Practicing these songs every day for a little while will help you become more proficient in guitar.

"Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd is a simple song with a straight riff and some chords that are repetitive and easy to learn. There isn't complicated fingering and the song is very straightforward. It's easy going and fairly simple.

America's "Horse With No Name" is a very easy song to play on the guitar. The song is familiar, which makes it simple, and there aren't many chords in it so the player can just strum along with the song in unison fairly easily.

"Smoke On The Water" by Deep Purple is an excellent first time song to start with. The riff is the same throughout the majority of the song and is a familiar one, so this song should be a great one to start with. Be sure to get a feel for the melody and rhythm of each song so you'll remember how to play it next time.

Also, it's important to get a feel for the guitar and learn all the proper positioning and especially the strings so that when you begin reading guitar music, it will come much easier to you and you'll start being more able to intuitively pick out notes and sounds on the guitar.

Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" is another good example of simple chording and fretwork. The melody is loose and free flowing, though still with a hard rock edge, but can be played with a little practice on an acoustic guitar.

Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" comes easy and to those who enjoy light rock and easy going fifties ballads, it will also be a fun one to play as well. As with all the songs, remember to be sure you're doing correct fingering and take it slowly at first until you can start playing a little faster.

A single strumming pattern is the best way to start, moving into more complex techniques as you get more experienced. Many popular folk and rock songs are simple to play on the guitar once you have the basic pattern down. Try The Beatles "Day Tripper", Cream's "Sunshine Of Your Love", Greenday's "Longview", and the ever popular "Sweet Home Alabama" by Lynyrd Skynyrd for starters. Eventually you'll be playing a myriad of songs and having more fun than you ever thought on the guitar.
